"My great grandfather was very wealthy. My grandfather grew up in boarding schools. Peabody high and everything in the Pittsburgh area with that name was indeed named after him. My grandfather gave up the family money because he hated how he was brought up and decided his family would not be raised that way...thats all I know"..love ya

In 1890, the high school was moved to West Capitol and Gaines Street and was named Peabody High School. The school was named in honor of philanthropist George Peabody, who donated millions of dollars to Southern states after the Civil War for building school systems. Little Rock received nearly $200,000 from Peabody. It was the largest sum given to any Southern city. In 1905, Peabody High School was abandoned and a new high school, named Little Rock Senior High, opened at 14th and Scott Streets.
